Going for gold in raising money for Barnardo’s Cymru

Cyclist and Beijing Olympics gold medallist Geraint Thomas is urging people across North Wales to get on their bikes for Barnardo’s Cymru.
The first On Your Bike for Barnardo’s event in North Wales will take place on Sunday 7June, and Geraint is keen to get people in the saddle and cycling to raise funds for the children’s charity.
He says:
I believe that every child should have the chance to reach their full potential. By joining the Bike Ride and raising funds for Barnardo's Cymru, you can show that you too believe in children and want to give them the opportunities to succeed in life, no matter who they are or what they have been through.
The 24-year-old who stormed to victory in the Team Pursuit at the Beijing Olympics and broke a world record in Manchester last year, is throwing his weight behind the Barnardo’s Cymru bid to raise funds for its services in North Wales.
The charity runs 10 services including a service for young carers; projects for homeless young people and those leaving care; support for disabled children and their families; fostering and adoption services, and family centres which offer support to parents in crisis.
Barnardo’s Cymru Director Yvonne Rodgers says:
We are really pleased that Geraint is supporting this event and we are sure that it will encourage many keen and amateur cyclists to take part in our event.
The bike ride offers two circular routes, the first a 15 mile family-friendly ride from Colwyn Bay to Rhos on Sea along a designated cycle path, with the second more challenging route carrying on to Llandudno and around the Great Orm.
Entry fees will be £8 per cyclist and £20 for a family ticket and a prize will be offered to the cyclist who raises the highest amount of sponsorship for the charity.
