Special event marks the charity’s 65th anniversary as a registered adoption agency.

Dame Helen Mirren joined hundreds of school children for a carol concert at St Paul’s Cathedral which marked a special anniversary for the UK’s largest children’s charity.

Barnardo’s has now been a registered adoption agency for 65 years, and decided to mark the special occasion at its annual carol concert. Choirs from eleven schools took part in the event, which also included readings by Barnardo's Ambassador Nina Wadia and actress Fay Ripley.

Barnardo’s Chief Executive Anne Marie Carrie said:

Our carol concert marked Barnardo’s 65th anniversary as an approved adoption agency. We specialise in placing children with extra needs and know that fostering and adoption can help to transform the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children by giving them security and stability.

However, today over 4,000 children are still waiting to be adopted. And what is more, there is a shortfall of over 10,000 foster carers who are desperately needed to give a safe home to a child at risk. Barnardo’s recruits, trains and supports adoptive parents and families.”
