In response to the report by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Prisons report on Cedars pre-departure accommodation
Release Date: 23 Oct 2012
Barnardo’s Chief Executive Anne Marie Carrie said:
Barnardo’s work in Cedars has transformed the treatment of families in their final hours before they are removed from the UK.
The dignity and welfare of families must be upheld throughout the immigration process and more must be done to minimise distress, including ensuring a consistent approach to removals and use of approved techniques.
Barnardo's involvement at Cedars has not stopped us speaking out on behalf of asylum seeking families and we will continue to call for improvements to the family returns process as a whole".
