Toddlers take on Village Green for 15th Barkingside Big Toddle

Release Date: 21 Jun 2018

Crowds gathered on the Village Green in Barkingside, east London, to cheer on a group of toddlers taking part in their nursery’s 15th Big Toddle for Barnardo’s.

Several of the children from Peter Pan’s Day Nursery in Thomas Barnardo Way donned nature-themed outfits for the annual fundraiser, joining thousands of groups around the UK in supporting the charity’s work with vulnerable children, young people and families.

Those who braved 23C heat for the Barkingside event on June 20 were rewarded with medals for their efforts, and staff from Barnardo’s headquarters next door came out to show their appreciation along with the charity’s Toddle mascot, Big Todd.

Claudine Pendle, owner of Peter Pans Day Nursery, said:

We’re really pleased because this is the 15th year we’ve done the Big Toddle. It’s a great way to get the community together and we usually do quite well. It takes a while to collect all the sponsorship money but on average we raise about £1,400 to £1,500.

Lynn Gradwell, Director of Barnardo’s in London, said:

This was yet another fantastic effort by the staff and children at Peter Pan’s Day Nursery and I want to thank everyone for getting behind the Big Toddle once again. The funds they raise are needed more than ever and will help our vital services make a real difference to the lives of children and young people of all ages.

Parents, carers and playgroups are encouraged to register to organise their own events throughout the summer. It could be a community Toddle, one for families and friends or one involving a local nursery or primary school.

For the second consecutive year the Big Toddle is run in partnership with the much-loved CBeebies TV show, Teletubbies. This year there is a nature theme, with lots of opportunities for creative dressing up as animals, insects, flowers or jungle creatures.

By signing up to the Big Toddle, groups can access exclusive nature-themed early years learning resources.
