Amy-Beth Ellis 2

The teenage cake maker who lives in a nearby Essex village demonstrated her skills to young carers aged 8 to 18.

A passionate baker, Amy-Beth has been making cakes since the age of 3, set up her own cupcake business at 13 and published her recipe collection book aged 14.

She said:

It was a real privilege meeting and spending time with the young carers at Barnardo’s Indigo service. It’s humbling to hear how these young people selflessly give up so much of their time helping to take care of their loved ones. It was lovely to be able to bake with them and show them how rewarding it can be. I find baking really therapeutic as well as being a fun thing to do with family and friends.”

The workshop was a partnership event with Indigo Young carers project and Redbridge Carers Support Service which provides help when young carers reach 18.

Barnardo’s Indigo Services Manager, Jo Chaney, said:

This was a chance for our young carers to leave their caring responsibilities at home and take part in something interesting and fun.

It was an opportunity to meet a successful cookery writer who is an inspiring role model to young people. Hopefully, the event will motivate them to get experience in the world of work and perhaps pursue a career in cooking or baking.”
