'Passion for Fashion' appeal - can you help?

Release date: 31 Aug 2012

Actress Michelle Collins is supporting our ‘Passion for Fashion’ appeal which aims to raise much needed funds by urging you to donate your unloved clothes and accssories to our stores.

It’s time to clear out your wardrobes!

Michelle is urging you to donate those items that you bought but have never actually worn and the likelihood is, never will.

The Coronation Street star said:

I bet I’m not the only one with a passion for fashion who has a few great items that they hardly wear but that would be perfect for someone else.

I’m thinking of that coat you bought, just because it was in the sale or those brights or pastels that didn’t quite suit you?  The large print that swamps you?  The tiny print that seems not loud enough? The attention-seeking bag that doesn’t go with any of your outfits?

Clear out these clothes now for Barnardo’s and make room for new buys for autumn/winter. You’ll help someone else look good and help vulnerable children.”

Echoing Michelle’s appeal, Barnardo's Director of Retail Gerard Cousins said:

Help someone else look good, and help a vulnerable child, by donating your unwanted pieces to Barnardo’s. At present, we are particularly looking for ladies wear and accessories, but we are always happy to receive all donations to our stores which couldn’t survive without the kind donations of the public.

There are approximately 30.7 million women living in the UK currently. If each of them donated an item to us, we could stand to raise around £122 million! You can be certain that your donations will be helping to transform the lives of the UK’s most disadvantaged children, including the many children we support every year who have been victims of sexual exploitation.”

Why we need you to donate

Profits from Barnardo’s shops countrywide fund our services for children in great need of help, including those being targeted, groomed and then manipulated or forced into sex. This year, through our Cut Them Free campaign we hope to double our outreach and support to young victims of sexual exploitation.
