London pupils break school record by raising 3,750 for Barnardo’s

Release Date: 26 Jul 2017

Young pupils in Barnet have smashed their school’s fundraising record by collecting 3,750 for Barnardo’s over a single term.

Pupils at Mill Hill County High School have raised more than £3,700 for Barnardo's

Classes of year seven students at Mill Hill County High School staged a series of events and challenges, competing to see who could raise more to help the children’s charity support the most vulnerable children, young people and families.

The 11 and 12-year-olds set up a digital photo booth, washed teachers’ cars, arranged a football match, charged fellow pupils to bounce on a trampoline and ran more sponsored activities, raising more for a single cause than any of the school’s year groups has done before.

Head teacher Geoffrey Thompson said:

I’m impressed and delighted that our pupils have raised such a fantastic amount of money for Barnardo’s. It’s particularly appropriate that they’ve put in so much hard work to help a charity that’s dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable children and young people.

Fundraising activities were led by teacher Miss Muryum Khan throughout the Easter term. The pupils were each given certificates celebrating their fundraising success on July 21, the last day of the summer term, after presenting a giant cheque to Monique Turpin, Barnardo’s Head of Challenge Events and Community Fundraising, who is herself a former pupil at Mill Hill County High School.

Monique said:

It’s fantastic to be able to come back to the school and meet a new generation of pupils who really want to help other children, and I want to thank every one of them for contributing this amazing group effort. The funds they have raised will really help Barnardo’s do more to create safer childhoods, stronger families and positive futures for more children and young people.
