Bedroom Tax campaign continues
Release Date: 14 Mar 2013
Barnardo’s was very pleased to hear that foster carers were to be exempt from the ‘bedroom tax’ – an important step which we had been campaigning for for some months.
However further details are now emerging which show this exemption does not include all foster carers – those living in social housing who foster more than one child, may still be barred from holding extra spare rooms under the proposed housing benefit reform. We are concerned that this will discourage and unfairly penalise foster carers who perform a vital role in taking in and protecting some of the most vulnerable children in our society. Barnardo’s will continue its discussions with Government to highlight this important issue.
