Actor Jason Flemyng lends his support to ‘Make a Difference’
Release date: 27 Oct 2012
Barnardo’s Ambassador and movie A-Lister Jason Flemyng, is backing the UK's biggest day of volunteering on 27th October, 2012.
Make a Difference Day (MADD) provides opportunities for thousands of people to volunteer every year in activities across the UK.
What we're doing
Between 20 October and 4 November all 400 of our stores will be running volunteering promotions and are looking for people who are flexible, creative and most importantly, want to make a real difference to the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people.
As a parent, I’ve found volunteering for Barnardo’s incredibly rewarding. By doing media interviews and visiting Barnardo’s projects, I’m trying to raise awareness about the work the charity does to support vulnerable children and their families.
But you don’t have to be a famous actor to make a difference. People from all walks of life can make a real contribution to the charity, and pick up new skills and valuable experience at the same time.
Our volunteering roles can be extremely varied, from people giving a few hours each week to befriend disabled children, build playgrounds, to those fundraising or campaigning to raise awareness of our work.
Whatever the role, our dedicated army of volunteers make a huge difference to the running of the organization and we would not be able to function effectively without their dedication.
Karen Sparkes, Head of Volunteering for Barnardo’s, said:
It is fantastic to have the support ofJason in raising the awareness of volunteering and the difference it makes to us here at Barnardo's.
Volunteers are extremely important to Barnardo's and the experience can be very rewarding. It can help people from all walks of life gain skills and boost their CVs, whilst helping some of the UK’s most vulnerable children.
