I am a practitioner working with families of children with ADHD. How can I deliver the parenting programme?
We have a facilitators programme for 'The Parent Factor in ADHD' parenting programme which gives participants the skills, knowledge and resources to deliver the progamme. For information about when the next programme is running please contact us.
How do you know 'The Parent Factor in ADHD' parenting programme is effective?
We have undertaken a year long independent evaluation of the programme with the University of London. They have analysed all the information we have collected from parents over the last 4 years at the end of each session, as well as pre and post group questionnaires. They concluded that "from the data already collected by Barnardos, reports from parents who have completed the parenting programme suggest they have found it useful. The most common reported comments suggest that practical strategies, reassurance and learning from others were the main benefit of the programme. The written comments from parents that were given at the end of each session suggest that the session aims are being met".
For any further information about how to access any of the training or programmes or about commissioning services for your area please contact us.
I am a young person with ADHD – what support is out there for me?
If you are a young person with ADHD looking for some support or activities in your area please contact us and we will do our best to find out what’s available for you.
What is attachment?
Attachment is an emotional bond to another person. The main theme of attachment theory is that the care givers who are available and responsive to their babies establish a sense of security for that infant. The infant knows that the caregiver is dependable and that their needs will be met, this gives a secure base for the infant to explore their world.
How do you engage hard to reach parents?
Multi agency working, using positive interaction strategies, build authentic relationships with families. Look at what the families are doing well and build on this. We run an Engaging Parents in their Children’s Learning Course that will build your confidence and give you a toolbox of strategies to help you engage parents. Please contact our service for further information.
I'm working with parents with Substance misuse issues - What's out there?
"The Parent Factor" for parents who use drugs and alcohol is a parent programme that explores the impact of substance use on parenting. It offers parents the opportunity, through practical exercises, to assist parents who use drugs and alcohol to understand how their substance use can affect their children and how knowledge about substance use can help them make positive choices and enhance their existing parenting skills.
We deliver "The Parent Factor" for parents who use drugs and alcohol facilitators training to enable practitioners to be trained to deliver the parent programmes in their own area. Please see"How we can help" page.
