CHiP (Children’s Inclusion Project)
What is CHiP?
CHiP is a scheme for children aged 8-12 years of age who are at risk of offending or becoming further involved in offending or anti-social behaviour.
CHiP supports and works together with you, your child and other agencies to identify, address and reduce the risk factors involved in your child’s behaviour.
We do this by:
- listening and supporting
- working with you and your child to identify the difficulties you are experiencing
- agreeing an action plan to address identified difficulties
- working with your child to make positive choices.
What is the mentoring scheme?
The scheme offers young people up to the age of 18 the opportunity to have a carefully matched mentor to provide individual support.
The mentor will work together with the young person to encourage change, with the aim of reducing the risk of becoming involved or further involved in offending or anti-social behaviour.
What does a mentor do?
Mentors are individuals who have been trained to work with young people to build on existing strengths and to identify positive ways forward.
They will:
- work together with the young person and family to identify the support networks available
- to address the needs of the young person
- provide the young person with continual one to one support through a jointly agreed plan of action
- encourage and develop skills and interests through accessing existing community, leisure and educational facilities.
