English for Speakers of Other Lanuguages

The Barnardo’s ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Mentoring Project provides an adult to adult mentoring service designed to meet the varied needs of residents of Manchester who are from asylum, refugee and BME communities to improve their spoken English in order to increase community engagement and assist access to education, training and employment opportunities.
The project is a pilot, initially funded until March 2010 by Manchester City Council, as part of their plan to reduce the number of workless residents in Manchester through a number of initiatives.
Barnardo’s won their bid to deliver the ESOL Mentoring project by forming a partnership with Nord Anglia based on their respective areas of expertise. Nord Anglia have a strong track record in education, information, advice and guidance. Barnardo’s have strong track record in community engagement, volunteering and mentoring.
