Mike Price - Principal

Mike Price, Principal at Barnardo's Meadows School

I left Nonnington College of Physical Education in 1981 with a B.Ed (Hons) in Movement Studies and Education and Biology.

I then began teaching in Dover at a day special school. I moved to Manchester in 1983 to a position at a residential special school. Whilst in Manchester I obtained a Diploma in Special Educational Needs and an Advanced Diploma in Education Management from Manchester Polytechnic.

I then took a post at Meadows in 1991 as a Deputy Principal until 1996 when I was appointed Head Teacher of a residential special school managed by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Whilst working for Tower Hamlets I gained a Masters Degree in Education Management with the Open University.

I returned to Meadows in 2002 and have assisted the school to gain improving Ofsted inspections.

At present, I also work as a School Improvement Partner for two Local Authority schools assisting their school development and supporting their Head Teachers.

Vaughan Jackson - Head of Care

Vaughan Jackson, Head of Care at Barnardo's Meadows School

I left Northfleet School for Boys in 1977 to join the Royal Navy where I trained as a Marine Engineering Mechanic. During my six years service I experienced many different countries and cultures including the Falklands Islands, thankfully just after the conflict. On leaving the Navy I joined a general building company and went on to become a plumber. I pursued this trade for three years before securing a post within the Social Work Team at Frant Court, a London Borough of Greenwich owned Children’s Home with Education, based in Frant, East Sussex. This proved to be an excellent experience and introduction to Residential Social Work and over the four years spent there I moved to the position of shift leader.

In 1991 I joined Meadows School as a Deputy Team Leader, I completed the Diploma in Social Work in 1999 and secured the Team Leader position at Bradbury House. After four enjoyable years at Bradbury I was successful in my application for the Head of Care.

Chris Wyton - School Bursar

Chris Wyton, Bursar at Barnardo's Meadows School

I was educated at a Greenwich Grammar School and then went straight into International Banking. I still have deep regrets that I didn’t stay to reap the many benefits! I then spent 13 happy years working for the GLC Housing Finance Team. I then resurrected my career at Knotley School Chiddingstone and then West Wickham. Fortune was once again to come my way as I was soon head hunted for a job in Kent County Council’s Economic Development Department. I was promoted to the position of Principal Economic Development Officer and spent increasing time developing European projects, particularly in partnership with Nord- Pas de Calais organisations. I then took up the post of Bursar at Meadows School where I have been for over 15 years.

This move is the best thing that ever happened to my son - quote from a parent, taken from the Ofsted Education Report 2008.
