Governors have responsibility for determining, monitoring and keeping under review the broad policies, plans and procedures within which the school operates. They are not involved in the day-to-day management issues.

Governors are appointed or elected by different groups including parents, staff, sponsoring local education authorities and the local community.

Governors Statement  - January 2017

Governors continue to work with school management and leadership to ensure that Meadows School meets the changing needs of legislation, local authorities, parents and students.

In 2016 Meadows was once again rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for its residential and care provision and ‘Good’ for its educational provision, as well as gaining the ‘CPD Mark’ for staff training and development.

Pupil participation in the School Council and the selection of new teaching staff is building a stronger school community.  Parent engagement with the learning process has been encouraged by more frequent feedback and parent-teacher events.

The school attracts students from a wide area, covering 13 different Local Authorities. The school leadership is working with Local Authorities to implement the new government requirements through the referral and admissions process.

In 2016 the DFE gave permission for Meadows to increase student numbers to a maximum of 80 and to accept students in years 3 and 4. Meadows School continues to develop its offer, catering for students aged 7-19. Classes in Key Stage 2 and 16+ are growing.

The curriculum has been broadened to more closely meet the needs of individual students. There is increased provision aimed at preparing students for working life. Assessment, feedback and evaluation systems have been strengthened. This year there is particular focus on attendance, behaviour and interventions. Therapeutic aspects in the Meadows ‘Hub’ continue to develop.

Broadband has been significantly upgraded and Wi-Fi is now available across the whole site, improving the use of technology in teaching as well as enhancing the student experience. The CCTV system has been completely modernised, supporting safeguarding across the site.

We welcome these positive developments and look forward to continuing success at Meadows School.
