Different services have different referral criteria. For all services please contact Marlborough Road and we will be happy to give additional information and to send you the necessary forms.
Cardiff young families service
Provides housing and support for vulnerable young families where the primary carer is aged 16 - 21 years and is either pregnant or has a child. The focus will be helping young parents gain the necessary skills, knowledge and awareness to live more independently in their communities, to manage a tenancy and to value all the joys of parenthood. Referrals have to be made through Cardiff Social Services.
Cardiff support services for single young people
Supported housing and floating support for vulnerable young people aged 16-21 focusing on helping young people gain the necessary skills, knowledge and awareness to live more independently in their communities with particular services for black and minority ethnic young people and black and minority ethnic young women fleeing domestic violence.
Cardiff youth homelessness prevention section 180 work
Working in partnership with Cardiff Women's Aid the aim of the project is to deliver homelessness and domestic violence information to young people in secondary schools and youth services across Cardiff.
Cardiff debt and benefit advice worker
Group work and individual support to try and improve the financial capability and earning potential of young people. (funded via the Big Lottery).
Cardiff support service for young parents
Young parents under the age of 17 are able to participate in a group which will help them acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to negotiate their way as young parents in the adult world. School age parents are offered a longer programme which can last until their formal school leaving age.
Cardiff young dads project
Young dads under the age of 19 are able attend a course with their children that will help them acquire the skills necessary to become a positive role model.
Cardiff Caterpillar Project
The service promotes awareness of the stigma and lack of provision for young people experiencing mental ill health.
Young people aged 12 – 19 who are experiencing or are likely to experience mental health crisis can access individual and group work.
Referrals can be from any agency or young person.
Cardiff Bounceback
Supports emotionally vulnerable young people aged 15+ who have been identified as needing support within a school setting to develop coping skills and emotional resilience and to successfully negotiate year 11 and make the transition from school to further education, employment and independence. We accept referrals from Llanedeyrn , Cathays, Willows and Fitzalan high schools.
Vale of Glamorgan Schools Based Counselling
This service offers someone friendly in school for young people to talk to. Someone to listen who won't judge. It doesn't matter how big or small a problem, it could be about parents, friends, home-life, feeling angry, bullies, school work, someone's death or something else. Referrals can be made by school staff or other professionals working with a young person. Young people can also self refer to the service. Parent and guardians are able to refer with the young person's permission.
Cardiff Works
Provides the opportunity for young people aged between 16-24 to gain employment with Scottish and Southern Energy. Barnardo's will provide support to allow them to gain necessary skills in employment and awareness of:
- saving money
- working on benefits
- emotional wellbeing in the workplace.
