Barnardo's Making It Work
Welcome to Barnardo’s Making it Work project website.
In Manchester, care leavers aged 16-21 are supported by Manchester Leaving Care Service (MLCS) under The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000, helping them to adjust to independent living and encouraging them to achieve their full potential.
Making It Work (MIW) was initially set up in 2003 as a ‘sister’ project to the MLCS to provide specific support to care leaver young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).
Since 2003, the project has continued to grow, and now accepts referrals from a range of agencies including the MLCS, Connexions, education and housing providers. The overall aim of MIW is to effectively engage young people aged 16-21 into education, employment and training opportunities and reduce the NEET figures for young care leavers across Manchester City.
At Making it Work, we believe in the potential of every young person, no matter of their background, personal history or current circumstances. We want to empower young people by giving them the confidence, skills and support to make positive choices towards their future life ambitions.
