Governors have responsibility for determining, monitoring and keeping under review the broad policies, plans and procedures within which the school operates. They are not involved in the day-to-day management issues.

Governors are appointed or elected by different groups including parents, staff, sponsoring local education authorities and the local community.

Governors Statement - January 2018

Governors continue to work with school management and leadership to ensure that High Close School meets the changing needs of legislation, Local Authorities, parents and pupils.

In 2018, the Governors will continue to monitor the progress of High Close School following the Ofsted inspections in July 2017. We are excited by the changes that leadership have made and the governing body membership has grown to help with the monitoring and bring fresh ideas. Pupil participation in the School Council and the careful selection of new teaching and support staff is continuing to build a stronger school community. Parent engagement with the learning process has been encouraged by more frequent feedback and parent-teacher events. Feedback from parents and Local Authorities has been very favourable. There are now two parent governors.

The school attracts students from a wide area, covering over 25 different Local Authorities which presents its own challenges but also encourages us to idividualise therapies and learning programmes for our pupils. High Close is very good at creating appropriate, individualised plans. The curriculum is closely monitiored to ensure that it meets the needs of individual students. There is focused provision aimed at preparing students for working life. Assessment, feedback and evaluation systems have been further strengthened. This year there is particular focus on safeguarding and pupil progress.

The new Head of Therapy supports our young people alongside a strong education focus. We welcome these positive developments and look forward to greater success at High Close.
