Frequently asked questions
What is an Advocate?
An advocate is someone who will listen to your views to find out what you think about things. They will make you aware of your rights and support you in telling other people what you think. They will help you identify who you want to speak to and how you are going to do this.
Why would I need an advocate?
An advocate can make sure that your views are heard by the people who make decisions about you
Will you tell anyone what I tell you?
Your Advocate will always respect your confidentiality unless they are worried about your safety or the safety of others
Can I make a referral even though I’m not a social worker?
YES – if you think that a child or young person needs the help of an advocate, whether you are a friend, relative, parent, education worker, health worker or work for any other organisation we want to hear from you.
