Office volunteers
What does it involve?

Barnardo’s offices support the front line work we do with children and young people by handling things like finance, human resources, fundraising and communications. By becoming an office volunteer you would help to keep the charity running smoothly and know that your work is making a difference to children and young people across the UK. Office volunteering is also a great way to learn skills for employment or to gain experience in the voluntary sector.
In general, office volunteers either provide administrative support or undertake specific projects to develop Barnardo’s work. Barnardo’s also runs an Internship Programme for volunteers wanting to complete a period of work experience in our Marketing and Communications department.
We have 9 offices across the UK: Barkingside, Essex (accessible from Central London on the Central Line), Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Halesowen, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle. Many of our projects working with children need office volunteers too; these volunteers help with the vital administration and IT needed to keep the project running smoothly. If you want to contribute to Barnardo’s work with children and enjoy working in an office, then this is the role for you! Read on to hear from two real-life volunteers, or search for current volunteering opportunities in Barnardo’s offices. Please note when searching our 'current volunteering vacancies' that roles in our major offices are listed under 'office work' while administrative roles based in children's projects are listed under 'working with children and young people'.
In their own words…

"I’ve been a volunteer at the Bristol Regional Office for over a year now. My work ranges from sending out letters for school appeals to sending out packs for the Bristol Half Marathon. I really enjoy the work that I do and knowing that I play a small part in helping children and young people have a better future is very rewarding. The people I work with are fantastic and it makes it a pleasure working there". Denise

"I have been at Barnardo’s as an intern for one month and think that the charity do amazing work. My team are also great to work with and make the interns feel very welcome. My day to day tasks include market research and product development. I find the job itself very motivating and it’s a pleasure to come here in the mornings knowing that the events I am working on raise funds for such a good cause. Barnardo’s trust their interns to manage projects independently and this makes the internships very unique. For example I am a student but Barnardo’s have allowed me to create and bring to feasibility stage a new challenge event". Elizabeth
