Employee volunteering
Companies are increasingly committed to demonstrating corporate social responsibility (CSR) and Barnardo’s Employer Supported Volunteering Scheme is an excellent way of giving something back to local communities as well as meeting business aims and objectives.
Barnardo’s can offer you a bespoke employee volunteering package that develops staff competencies, enhances job satisfaction and provides an effective opportunity to raise awareness of your brand and CSR agenda. We will work with your company to find an opportunity that meets your requirements and tackles key social issues.
There are various ways to get involved in Barnardo’s Employer Supported Volunteering Programme including
Team challenges
Team challenges give employees a chance to work together and apply their efforts to a new challenge outside of their normal working environment. As well as providing the chance for team building, we can also offer a challenge that makes a difference to the lives of the children and young people we work with. Team Challenges are a fun and productive way to fulfill CSR commitments. Barnardo's always has a range of Team Challenges on offer, including opportunities to fundraise competitively in teams, to give one of our retail stores a make-over and to undertake painting or decorating work in our projects. Team Challenges are a real 'hands-on' way to get involved in the local community! Two companies that have previously undertaken Team Challenges for Barnardo's have told us about their experience.
In their own words
Lecropt School and Family Support Service in Falkirk provides education and family support to children and young people aged between 5 and12 years with educational and social difficulties. HBoS staff held several fundraising events to buy play equipment for the school.
Barnardo's Family Placement Services provides a fostering service to
children with a range of special needs who are unable to stay with their birth families.
Individual volunteering
Many organisations now encourage their staff to volunteer in their local
community and some even allocate an annual allowance of time that employees can use to undertake voluntary
work. Barnardo's always has opportunities for individual volunteers, so please encourage people in your
organisation to search for current volunteering opportunities with Barnardo's. If
you want to discuss setting up a programme of employee volunteering for Barnardo's, then please fill
in the enquiry form at the bottom of the page.
One-off assignments- secondments
The skills held within your organisation can be of great use to the work of Barnardo's. Perhaps your employees have valuable financial, marketing or other commercial skills that could help us raise more money and communicate well with with the public. One-off assignments or secondments are mutually beneficial: Barnardo's gains access to specialist skills while employee volunteers get to apply their expertise to a different kind of challenge.
If you would like to work in partnership or find out more information about Barnardo’s Employee Supported Volunteering Scheme please fill out the form and we will get back to you.
