10play competition
in association with LA Productions
It's easy, just write a play lasting 10 minutes. It can be about whatever you want, it can have twenty characters in it or just one, it can be a comedy, a horror or a sci-fi - it's all up to you, so let your imagination run wild. The only main guideline you do need to follow is to make sure the play is 10 minutes long.
The entry deadline for 10play has now passed and the following scripts are being judged by our panel:
- Steve Scott: Dress for the Bigger Man
- Laura Lomas: My boy
- Dave Carr: Out of the Frying Pan
- Glenn Wilson: Lift
- Gillian Hiscott The Life Coach
- Caroline James: No Pets or Children
Thank you to every one who took part in the competition and good luck to the finalists! We hope that the winner will be announced soon.
The judges
Every single script was read by professionals at LA Productions, a highly respected tv and film production company, and the best is being submitted to the head judging panel, which consists of:
Jimmy McGovern
Writer of Cracker, Hillsborough and the recent BAFTA award winning BBC TV series The Street, Jimmy is one of the most respected writers working in Britain today.
Jack Thorne
Named by Broadcast Magazine as one of its Hot Shots for 2006, and a hugely talented new writer, Jack has written episodes of Skins and Shameless.
Colin McKeown
Producer at LA Productions, Colin has worked on every major soap in Britain and was one of the founders of Brookside. Also responsible for the feature film 'Liam' and countless television dramas, Colin is the major force behind 10play, and it wouldn't happen without him.
Dave Kirby
Dave took part in the first ever 10play and recently sold out the Royal Court theatre in Liverpool twice over with his plays 'Brick up the Mersey Tunnels' and 'Lost Soul'. Dave is testament to the fact that 10play can change peoples' lives.
After the judging
10play has led to successes for a number of people, including Dave Kirby, because the scripts are read by industry professionals and respected and talented judges. The winner of the competition will also have their play put on by professional actors, live at a theatre in Liverpool at a presentation evening.
Previous actors involved include Gillian Kearney, who has starred in Shameless, Clocking off and Brookside and is soon to star in Casualty, Shaun Evans who was in Teachers and has since graduated to films and Kent Riley who plays the ever popular Zac in Hollyoaks.
