Human Resources

The Human Resources team of People Services provide generalist/specialist advice on a wide range of issues such as employee relations, employment law, pay and reward, pensions, discipline/grievance etc. They also provide professional support in the areas of recruitment, equal opportunities and diversity as well as policy development.

There are nine national/regional HR teams that provide front line advice and support to managers across all areas of the organisation. In addition to operational activity they also manage and execute local strategies which support Barnardo's People Strategy.

The central human resources team, based at Head Office, provides specialist, strategic advice on issues which have an impact on Barnardo's practices across the UK. The central HR team co-ordinates the People Strategy which is developed to focus on the people issues within Barnardo's corporate plan.

Learning and Development

Barnardo's takes learning and development seriously. Everyone working at Barnardo's has different skills and career ambitions. We will offer you varied opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge linked to your role. To match these and the needs of the organisation, Barnardo's offers various courses (both internal and external) including; workshops, coaching/mentoring, e-learning, guided reading and peer networking opportunities. There are also some opportunities for career progression or secondments within the organisation via our weekly internal vacancy list.

In addition to an induction when you first join us, there are annual performance agreeemnts (and regular supervision for children's services staff). Specifically for social workers, consideration is given to postqualifying training and opportunities to undertake practise teaching.
