Community Fundraising

An important part of our work goes on out in the community dealing with people from all walks of life.
Children and Young People
From nursery schools to primary schools to secondary schools, Barnardo’s fundraisers inform and encourage young people to help other young people through a range of exciting activities designed to motivate young people and support the national curriculum at the same time. It takes energy, enthusiasm and some early starts but the rewards can be limitless.
A broad range of people choose to volunteer for Barnardo’s. These people are from a variety of backgrounds and encouraging them requires good communication at many different levels. This area is vital to our voluntary funds and therefore a key fundraising role.

Corporate Fundraising

Corporate fundraising is increasingly competitive and the work challenging.  It is also widely varied and hugely rewarding.

Workplace Giving
Barnardo’s was the first charity to establish payroll giving schemes with companies and is still a market leader today. Promoting payroll giving involves good communication at all levels with both large and small organisations and will bring you into contact with a wide range of people in a variety of situations from a food plant to an office block to a factory floor. Adaptability and flexibility is the key.

With increasing demand for companies to be more socially responsible here is huge potential to raise voluntary funds. We successfully identify and develop mutually beneficial partnerships with a wide range of companies across all sectors. This partnership may involve being charity of the year, sponsorship opportunities for key events such as our ‘Barnardo’s Big Toddle’ or cause related marketing initiatives.

You will need to have good client service skills, a concern for accuracy and good negotiation skills as well as being a good planner and organiser. Above all you will need to be able to build good professional relationships.

Events Fundraising

Events fundraising is undoubtedly a fun career but it requires not only a creative mind and untold energy but also firm foundations in project management and business planning.

Events at Barnardo's can range from Zip wiring to Classical concerts; from trekking through Kenya to setting up and manning a Santa's Grotto's. We are a dynamic department dealing with all aspects of event fundraising. We are involved in event research, evaluation, planning, budgeting and customer care. There is never a dull moment and our portfolio of events cover the entire year and across the UK.

Our events are key fundraising vehicles, where cost efficiency along side Health & safety are of utmost importance. Barnardo's events reinforce our brand and are key for promoting public awareness of our work and issues facing children today. They create media opportunities and therefore provide sponsorship opportunities for our corporate supporters.

Check out our trek & Toddle section of the website and our events page for a full listing of the things we do up and down the country.

Trust fundraising

The Trust fundraising team is a key part of our fundraising department. They are responsible for raising money from trusts and foundations, which support the work that Barnardo's does with children and young people. Research and excellent writing skills are essential for a trust fundraiser in order to ensure that we maximise the opportunities available and to constantly find new sources of income.

Trust fundraising is very competitive and selling Barnardo's and its work within a limited application form is an everyday challenge. Managing existing relationships is also a key role for a trust fundraiser.
