1. Can I ensure my money goes to a particular area of Barnardo’s work?

Donations that are unrestricted give us greater flexibility.  They ensure that your gifts are put to use when and where they are most needed to support vulnerable children throughout the UK. Although it is sometimes possible to restrict your donation to a particular area of our work, this can limit the effectiveness of our planning. If you do want to support a particular area of our work, please call our Supporter Care team on 0800 008 7005 to find out more.

2. Why should I make a regular gift rather than a one-off donation?

Regular gifts are one of our most important sources of income, they allow us to be there for the most vulnerable children, across the UK, for as long as they need us. They provide us with a consistent and reliable income so we can plan and budget for the future more confidently.

There are also benefits for you - our supporter. Once you have set up a regular gift, we promise that we will not contact you so often, to ask for your support. You can spread your donations over a period of time, so you can pay less each month. And finally, a regular gift also provides you with the reassurance that you are actively helping the most vulnerable children in the UK, in the long term.

While direct debits enable us to plan more effectively, we appreciate not all our supporters can help us in this way and cash gifts are also incredibly valuable as they can be put to work immediately.

3. Can I set up a Direct Debit online?

Yes, you can set up a regular gift for the amount of your choice here. You can also, email us, send us a form in the post or telephone us on 0800 008 7005.

4. Why should I set up a Direct Debit and not a Standing Order? What is the difference?

Direct Debits involve less administration, so they are cheaper - and less work - for us and for you. Also, Standing Orders do not offer the flexibility to change the value of your gift by telephone, since you will always need to instruct your bank with any changes.

5. Is making a credit card donation online to Barnardo’s secure?

Yes, making an online donation on our website www.barnardos.org.uk is completely safe. Any personal information you enter onto our online donation pages (including credit or debit card number, name and address) is 'encrypted'* before being sent to our card payment processor, Sage Pay, who process the payment securely using industry standard practices.

*'encrypted' - Encryption is a process which takes the words and figures you type and converts them into bits of code that are then securely transmitted over the Internet. Your information is stored on secure servers using industry standard 1024 SSL encryption.

6. Is making an online donation to Barnardo’s by direct debit secure?

Yes, making an online donation by Direct Debit is also completely safe. Any personal information you enter onto our online Direct Debit pages (including bank account details, name and address) is encrypted. Your details are passed securely to key finance staff at Barnardo’s for further processing.

You are also fully covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee:
