Why are bespoke partnerships so important?

Tailored fundraising ideas for companies partnering with charities are vital, according to the Head of Partnerships at Barnardo’s.

Towers Watson

Forbes Mutch, who has worked for Barnardo’s for more than five years, has highlighted the importance of bespoke corporate fundraising plans, as a new three-year partnership with Towers Watson is being announced.

We are delighted that the leading global professional services company is supporting Barnardo’s from January 2015 onwards. The partnership could raise hundreds of thousands of pounds over its lifetime, transforming the lives of even more of the most vulnerable children in the country.

Senior consultant at Tower Watson, Mark Williams, said: “It was ultimately an easy decision to choose Barnardo’s as our new UK charity partner, due to the way that the team understood our business and were able to tailor their suggested activities accordingly.

“I’ve been incredibly impressed by both the range of amazing work that Barnardo’s does, and with the engagement and enthusiasm of the corporate partnership team.”

Forbes said that Towers Watson was inspired and excited by the fundraising ideas that the Barnardo’s partnership team presented when pitching for support. He stressed the importance of fundraising activity complementing the targets and goals of individual businesses looking to work with a charity.

He said: “Partnerships between charities and corporate organisations are certainly a two way thing and every business is different. Here at Barnardo’s, we are very happy to come up with lots of ideas that suit the organisation we are approaching. Towers Watson is keen on employee engagement, and so a host of staff-centric ideas are on the cards, including competitive fundraising between different offices.”

In the past we have worked with our partners closely to create engaging, bespoke and mutually beneficial events. In October 2014 we worked with current partner Dunelm on a Friend’s and Family day which was a resounding success all-round, raising over £100K. Dunelm hosted the evening in stores up and down the country, offering a 25% discount to friends and family of staff, while fundraising for Barnardo’s through raffles and bake sales. This was a fantastic way to boost sales, while raising crucial funds at the same time.

Through another current partnership with John Lewis, our Corporate Relationships Team  helped develop the hugely popular ‘Storytime with Barnardo’s’ which takes place throughout all John Lewis stores. This fundraising event effectively engages John Lewis customers and staff, while raising funds for the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

Forbes is looking forward to working with Towers Watson in a similar bespoke way and says “we are over-the-moon that Towers Watson has agreed to support Barnardo’s in this incredibly generous way. I very much look forward to working with them over the next few years to help the most vulnerable children who have no one to turn to.”
