Five John Lewis festive fundraising activities

The timing is perfect as the retailer celebrates 150 years of successful trade on the UK High Street, and we prepare to mark our 150th year of transforming the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children.

The partnership is set to fund the roll-out of our early intervention work scheme all over the UK. This will benefit the most vulnerable children under five through teaching parents of vulnerable children five key things they can do with their child that revolve around the magic of storytelling.

Fundraising is going brilliantly, and our inspiring partner has not slowed down as the Christmas holidays approach! We are supporting them with their host of festive fundraising activities. Here are our top five picks:

1. The John Lewis Countdown to Christmas

Monty the Penguin fever spread across the country last month, when John Lewis launched its Countdown to Christmas with a heart-melting TV advert.

John Lewis also started selling some special items in-store and online, including Monty and Mable plush toys in a variety of sizes, and a storybook for children. What’s more, £1.20 from the sale of each Monty storybook is being donated to Barnardo’s. You will also find some other products on sale to raise money for Barnardo’s including selected mugs and Christmas jumpers.

2. Marketing Directorate Christmas Market

Xmas Market

John Lewis held a magical event in its London Head Office for partners. The day raised a staggering £10,000. There were stalls selling bespoke designer Christmas cards, a raffle, a beauty and perfume lucky dip, homemade cakes to buy and even a photobooth with Monty and friends.

The office was decked out with beautiful Christmas trimmings, and guests enjoyed a range of entertainment. What a brilliant idea!

3. The Santa Run

A group of John Lewis partners took part in The Santa Run in London’s Victoria Park. The event saw around 5,000 fitness enthusiasts don a St Nick outfit and walk, jog or run a 5k route.

The John Lewis partners are collecting sponsorship for Barnardo’s.

4. Donations to a Barnardo’s family centre

Partners from the Sloane Square and Brent Cross branches of John Lewis were kind enough to donate children’s toys, clothes and books to their local Barnardo’s family centre.

We are so grateful to them for this kind gesture, which will help the vulnerable children and their families who we support in the area.

5. Story Telling events

A series of Story Telling events were held in John Lewis stores all over the UK, featuring celebrity guests from Baroness and Barnardo’s Vice President, Floella Benjamin OBE, to actor Peter Capaldi who plays Dr Who, and Suzanne Packer, who starred in Casualty.

Posters and leaflets were available for shoppers who came to see the events, and they had a chance to text to donate to Barnardo’s.

We are hugely grateful to John Lewis for this inspired mix of fundraising activities, which will help us change the lives of even more vulnerable children facing anything from neglect, to abuse. Thank you.
