Exciting John Lewis partnership news

John Lewis raised a fantastic £70,000 for Barnardo’s vital work over the Christmas period alone, as well as extending a promise of their support for at least another year.

Over the Christmas period, the much-loved retailer sold a range of Monty the Penguin merchandise, with proceeds from the sale of some themed items including storybooks, mugs and clothing, going directly to Barnardo’s. This raised £70,000 of the £460,000 raised so far for the UK’s leading children’s charity by John Lewis.

The money is being used to establish new Early Intervention work with young children in the UK. Our expert staff support families who are struggling to cope, giving them the skills to ensure a more positive future for their children.

In addition to selling the adorable Monty-inspired items, staff kindly filled up shoe boxes with gifts, which were given to some of the children we work with at local services.

Our much-loved retail partner teamed up with us in September 2013, just in time for their 150th anniversary celebrations in 2014. It is a match made in heaven, as Barnardo’s prepares in 2016 to celebrate 150 years of transforming the lives of the country’s most vulnerable children, a milestone anniversary since Thomas Barnardo started his work in Victorian London. Today, Barnardo’s supports 200,000 children each year through 900 projects all over the UK.

Corporate Relationship Manager Helena Burley, talking about securing at least another 12 months’ partnership with John Lewis, said:

“We are so pleased to continue our work with this well-loved and long- established British institution.

We have been amazed by the generosity of John Lewis partners. I am especially thankful to the community co-ordinators at each store who have taken the time and initiative to inspire John Lewis partners to get behind this and achieve such brilliant results. I am really looking forward to continuing to work closely with John Lewis, and seeing what we can achieve together, for the UK’s most vulnerable children.”
