Bank of Ireland UK supports local Barnardo’s services

A partnership between Barnardo’s and Bank of Ireland UK, aims to help fund vital children’s services in four major cities. It's already proving to be a great success.

The partnership, which began less than a year ago in September 2014, has already seen the bank raise £10,000 for our vital work, provide £30,000 of Gifts in Kind, and 200 hours of voluntary work by kind, talented staff. All of the money raised will help to fund vital services in Manchester, London, Bristol and Belfast, making a huge difference to the lives of care leavers, children with disabilities, and unemployed young people.

Barnardo’s partnership with Bank of Ireland UK was launched with a Go Colourful Day (pictured), where Bank employees put a hand print on a giant banner to show their support for disadvantaged children. Bank of Ireland UK has continued fundraising through a range of initiatives including cake and juice sales, and a sponsored 5k race in Bristol this summer.

Bank of Ireland UK employees have used their allocated ‘One Day’ volunteering time to make an invaluable difference to our work. 25 employees recently took a day out of the office to complete a magical makeover at Barnardo’s Indigo service in London – painting and decorating the centre.

Nardos Michael, one of the volunteers from Bank of Ireland UK, said: “The most positive thing about the challenge was everyone’s energy and willingness to do the best they could, also realising that we were able to do it so quickly as a team. It’s not often we as a team are able to all get together due to schedules and availability, so the fact that we could get the majority of the team together for a great cause as well as bond as a team was an added bonus.”

Martin Howard, Corporate Relationship Manager at Barnardo’s, said: “It has been amazing to have the support of Bank of Ireland UK during the last 9 months. The organisation has shown a great appetite for fundraising and volunteering, and I can’t wait to work together on more exciting initiatives, to help change the lives of disadvantaged children across the UK.”
