A decade of 'Store Wars' celebrated

Store Wars

It has been over a decade since the ‘Store Wars’ fundraising product was first dreamt-up in the Barnardo’s offices. Since then, dozens of teams from some of the world’s most influential companies have battled it out in our charity store competition, raising around £2,000 per event for the UK’s most vulnerable children in the process.

Store Wars was born when Barnardo’s was looking for a fresh, new way to engage partners in fundraising, which would benefit their workforces too.

We are delighted the concept has proved so popular among our partners, including Saint Gobain Building Distribution, RBS, KPMG and John Lewis, and some of them have taken part year on year, recognising it as an opportunity to develop staff in different teams and departments as well as raising money for vulnerable children.

In a world saturated with fundraising events and ideas, and so many different ways to support good causes, Store Wars is the ideal product that can be specifically tailored for an organisation looking to give something back to their community, as well as challenge, and inspire their staff.

How does it work?

Well, it’s simple. Teams of six to ten people from an organisation get the rare treat of taking over one of our stores for a day! Teammates have to work together, using their creative and entrepreneurial skills to increase takings as much as possible! The winning team is the one that raises the most, after the store’s average takings for the day are deducted from the total.

The sky really is the limit in a Store Wars competition. Past teams have opted to hold themed days at their branch, special events such as raffles and tombolas, live music, and some even posed in the windows as mannequins themselves.

Trina Gable, Senior Corporate Relationship Manager at Barnardo’s, said that Store Wars is one of the charity’s most popular products, with a plethora of benefits for businesses and their workforce.

She added: “Taking part in Store Wars is incredibly fun and engaging for people at all levels but can also benefit your business by supporting staff development.

“By linking to competencies such as marketing, influencing, team building and communication you will be able to test the skills of the whole team, whilst at the same time raising vital funds for the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in the UK.”

A minimum donation is required to take part in Store Wars with Barnardo’s. For more information, please email us.
