1. How does a Workplace Giving scheme work and what are the benefits?
Barnardo’s can offer your employees two different types of workplace giving schemes.
The Barnardo’s Winners Club scheme is a workplace lottery offering your employees the chance to win cash back prizes. The Payroll Giving Scheme is simple, tax-effective way for your employees to give to Barnardo’s from their pay.
2. What is a Payroll Giving Agency?
All companies that have a Payroll Giving Scheme in place need to be registered with a Payroll Giving Agency (PGA). PGAs are required to handle donations on behalf of employers and make sure that the funds are distributed to the charities.
3. What should I do if my employer doesn’t currently have a Workplace Giving scheme?
Barnardo’s offer two different types of Workplace Giving schemes. Depending on which scheme your employer would prefer to operate, simply print off the benefits and Payroll Managers' guides for the Winners Club and/or Payroll Giving schemes and hand them to your employer.
4. How do I know that Barnardo’s have received my donation?
Your donation is important to us and once you join the scheme we will write to you to thank you. We may also send you updates on our work.
5. How do I increase or cancel my donation?
Your payroll department are responsible for any deductions taken from your pay, so if you would like to increase or cancel your donation you will need to notify them in writing.
6. What happens to my Workplace Giving deduction if I leave my job?
If you leave your current employer your Workplace Giving donation will automatically stop. We recommend you contact the payroll department of your new employer to see if they have a scheme. If they don’t have a scheme please refer to Question 3 above.
7. Can I still give through my pension?
If you are donating through the Payroll Giving Scheme, then yes, if you receive an occupational pension and the pension provider deducts tax through the PAYE scheme, you are still eligible. Simply ask your occupational pension provider to make a donation from your pension before the tax has been deducted.
8. I want to set up a Workplace Giving scheme for my employees, how do I get started?
Firstly, you need to choose which type of scheme you would like to offer your employees – to help you decide which is the most suitable, please take a look at the benefits for both the Winners Club and Payroll Giving schemes.
9. Can I match the donations made by my employees?
Yes, matching your employees’ donations can tie in with both your business and community investment aims. You can match £1 for £1 what of each of your employees give, or put a cap on how much you match per employee. For further information please contact us.
10. My company already has a Workplace Giving scheme for Barnardo’s. Where do I send the money to?
If you would like to pay by BACS you can request the bank details by emailing us. Please provide details of the company name, full postal code and your Barnardo’s supporter number (don’t worry if you don’t already have this as we can email it to you).
