The Peakies

As the name suggests, The Peakies were inspired by the Peak District in Derbyshire, but their influence is set to extend much further than that. A group of ten characters, The Peakies, are the brainchild of successful children’s author P G Baldwin. They are entertaining but also educational, with the accent on concerns such as drugs, bullying, respect for one another and the environment. Child protection, equality of opportunity and tolerance are written deep into the stories – making The Peakies an ideal fit with the ethos of Barnardo’s.

Two titles have already been published, ‘Castle Blue John’ and ‘Peakies in the Land of Seeds’, with the final part of the trilogy, ‘The Hastings Chair’ to come in 2009. There is a dedicated website www.thepeakies.com where you can learn more about the characters, read extracts and join the rapidly growing Peakie' Club. An online shop is also available where you can order books and related merchandise.

George Baldwin, the writer, was brought up in children’s homes in the 1950s and this has left him with a desire to put something back into the community, with the focus on the rights of children. The Peakies are the creative expression of this intent, and Barnardo’s will receive a donation from every Peakie’ book sold. Buy a book today and help raise money for Barnardo’s – you won’t regret it.
