What we’ve achieved

Earlier in September we launched a petition to support our campaigning work on the Children and Families Bill. We have campaigning for support for care leavers to be extended until 25, through personal advisors. Our petition received over 6,000 signatures and was presented to Lord Nash (who was overseeing the Bill as it went through the House of Lords) before committee stage debate. The petition highlighted that care leavers are being forgotten. They aren’t getting the support they need and are being left to fend for themselves.

In October 2012 we worked with the Department for Education and a number of other charities to launch the Charter for Care leavers.

The charter was produced to:

  • reinforce the Government’s commitment as corporate parent;
  • remind local authorities what they should be considering when working with care leavers;
  • raise aspiration and understanding of what care leavers need.
