Children seeking asylum campaign
Thank you for supporting our fight for fair asylum support rates. We had a fantastic response, with thousands of you emailing and sending postcards to Phil Woolas, the Immigration Minister in the last government.
As a result of the campaign, the Minister agreed to meet with our colleagues at Refugee Action, who presented him with evidence of the extreme hardship faced by the children of asylum seekers.
Shortly afterwards, the Minister wrote to us to say that following our meeting he had decided to increase support for all those waiting for a decision on their asylum claim.
We are pleased that they listened to us: however, there is still much to be done. The increase in funding is welcome, but it is not enough. There are still a great many children living in hardship.
We will be calling on the new Government continue efforts to support the most vulnerable and to commit to providing them with a decent quality of life.
