Types of care for disabled children
Short break carers
These are approved foster carers who provide periods of care in their own home to disabled children. They can provide overnight, weekend and or weekly stays.
Domiciliary carers
These provide support to families who care for a disabled child in their own home. Roles may include personal care or supporting the child in accessing play and leisure activities, and sitting with the child while the family takes a break.
Befriending
Befrienders provide flexible support to disabled children to access local activities and/or support within the child's or young person's home.
Link carers/workers
These are approved by the service to provide flexible support to disabled children and young people.
Sitting services
These follow a short approval process and involve providing support to a disabled child or young person in their own home.
