We would love to hear from you if you are interested in becoming a foster carer or would like further information. Please feel free to contact us for an informal discussion.

We require a broad range of carers from across the North West who:

  • are patient, understanding and flexible
  • can provide a nurturing and welcoming family environment
  • are committed to putting children’s needs first.

We have a long history of finding foster carers for children and young people who are considered more difficult to place, children with severe learning difficulties and children with complex health needs.

We are also looking for short break foster carers to look after a disabled child or young person for short periods of time, giving the child a fun break and their family much needed support. A short break might be anything from a few hours to a weekend.

How we support carers

Working as part of a committed and experienced team, all our foster carers and short break carers receive an excellent support package, including:

  • a dedicated Barnardo's social worker
  • one-to-one out of hours and group support
  • regular access to our educational psychologist team
  • specialist advice and a regular newsletter
  • comprehensive training, including Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) accreditation
  • the opportunity to undertake NVQ level 3 in Caring for Children and Young People.
  • access to a tax and welfare rights officer.

All our foster carers also receive an allowance and a professional fee.

Short break carers receive an allowance to cover any costs they may incur while providing care.
