What is respite care for disabled children?
Respite care is the provision of regular short breaks for disabled children.
A disabled child spends time away from his or her family with an approved Barnardo’s carer, to allow them to develop experiences and social contacts beyond their own home.
At Barnardo's we prefer to use the term 'short break care' because it places the emphasis on giving the child a fun break.
