Can I adopt?
We welcome enquiries from all sorts of prospective adopters. What matters most to us is whether you will be able to care for the type of children who are likely to need adoptive families.
Have you got lots of energy, understanding, patience and a sense of humour, and do you want to make a real commitment to a child for life? If so, adoption could be for you!
We do not automatically exclude anyone from consideration on the grounds of upper age, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, disability or employment status.
Who can adopt?
Successful adopters have to be able to work as part of a team. Being able to ask for, and utilise, help, advice and support is an important quality.
Many of the children we are asked to place come from ethnic minority backgrounds and we would like to hear from people of all ethnic groups and religions.
By law there is a minimum age of 21, and certain offences exclude people from adopting.
We look at potential adopters' ability to meet the child’s needs throughout childhood and beyond.
We seek prospective adopters who can engage in the assessment and preparation process openly and honestly. We will be open and honest with you throughout the process too.
