If you are a social worker looking for a family for a child or wanting Barnardo’s to take on some of your direct social work services on a contract basis, please ring our duty worker between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

We provide families for:

  • children who have often experienced abuse, either physical, sexual or emotional/neglect and may have had a number of unplanned moves, changes of carer or placement disruptions
  • single white children of school age
  • single children of African/Caribbean or Asian heritage or children of dual or mixed heritage
  • sibling groups of two, three or four children. This group of children are likely to have experienced disrupted backgrounds, sexual and other forms of abuse or neglect and present challenging behaviours
  • children and young people with a physical and/or learning disability
  • children and young people with a life limiting illness
  • children who have sexually abused other children. We will provide a package of a highly supported/supervised placement together with therapy (when contracted to do so)

Our families usually live within a 60 mile radius of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, but some are further a field. Project workers offer a high level of support to and supervision of families with children in placement, and can in addition undertake direct work with the children when contracted to do so by the local authority.

We can also offer direct social work services for children on a contract basis, please call us for more information.
