Family group conference advocacy training - 2 days

1 or 2 day introductory courses for co-ordinators or independent advocates in family group conferences. Participants on the 2 day course need to have a basic knowledge of the FGC model as this will not be included in the course.

  • identify and practice skills in keeping an appropriate focus on the child
  • consider the role of the advocate: what it is and what it shouldn't be
  • share practical ideas for providing advocacy within a family group conference
  • debate and discuss the pros and cons of family advocates and stranger advocates
  • look at the role of the advocate in private family time
  • develop strategies for support and supervision.
