What we do

Trainees win awards
Award winning trainees and their
Dr B's mentor Andrew Gibb (Feb 2011)

Dr B's Kitchen is a Barnardo's NI project which trains young people with learning difficulties for a career in the catering industry.

We have an 80% success employment success rate. Training with Dr B's can turn lives around. Young people gain experience and go on to get jobs and live independent lives.

In February 2011 two young trainees, 18 year old Kevin and 17 year old Samantha won Gold and Silver respectively at an all-Ireland catering competition held in Dublin - and this time last year neither of them had been in a kitchen. This year they cooked chicken with fresh basil, parmesan and pine nut tagliatelle and pan roasted cod with a pea and chive risotto and a fennel puree.

Kevin and Samantha are examples of the potential which young people have which would never be realised without training schemes like Dr B's.
