Dr B’s Kitchen Belfast

Dr B's Kitchen, Belfast, Northern Ireland - a Barnardo's project that trains young people with disabilities in catering

Everyone has a right to work.

Based on this principle, Dr B’s Kitchen works directly with young people aged 16-23 with learning disabilities, who as a group face a significant risk of exclusion from the labour market.

We now have over 15 years experience successfully working in partnership with local employers and businesses to help young people with a learning disabilities gain and maintain employment.

Our project is based in Belfast city centre. Training commences on site within the realistic working environment of our busy public restaurant and conference facility. Here, we provide on the job skills training which leads to formal qualifications in Catering. An integral part of our work includes planned work experience placements. This is where we work with employers who are prepared to give our young people a chance.

Dr B’s Kitchen is unique in that we are the only Barnardo’s project of this type within Northern Ireland. We maintain regular contact with other national training projects within Barnardo’s including Dr B’s Restaurant in Harrogate and Palmersville Training Centre in Newcastle Upon Tyne, which both offer similar training and qualifications in catering.
