Who can attend the service?

The service is reflective, non-denominational and suitable for everyone. It is an opportunity to meet with Barnardo’s staff and fellow supporters over light refreshments and an opportunity to discover the village on a self-guided tour. Someone who has used Barnardo’s services talks about how this has helped them turn their life around.

Our 2011 Service

This year we will be holding the Service on Sunday, 20 November from 12 to 2pm in Barnardo’s Village Church, Barkingside.

This will be our fifth annual Thanksgiving Service and it promises to be a truly unique opportunity to commemorate and celebrate the life of a loved one, or loved ones.

The service is reflective and suitable whatever your belief. Previous attendees have found the event a poignant way to pay tribute to the memory of their loved ones, as well as an opportunity to meet with Barnardo's staff and fellow supporters.

Last year we received some deeply moving messages on large paper holly leaves which were displayed, along with photographs of loved ones, during the service in the Barnardo’s Church. Everyone commented on how moving they found the service and how much they appreciated the balloon release.

"It was my first Thanksgiving Service and I thought it was very moving. The music was delightful and right for the occasion and beautifuly played and sung. It was good to hear of the work provided by Barnardo's  from the young carer. The lighting of the candles and balloons going off together was a joy. Thank you for a most memorable service- I hope it won't be my last."

My sister died two years ago, aged just 55. The only way for me to get through those dark days was to say 'thank you' for a life well-lived. I think she would be very happy to know that something good can come from all this. Margaret, 54
