Keeping your Will up-to-date

It is extremely important to keep your will up-to-date. Otherwise, it may not reflect your wishes at the time of your death. At a painful time, this could cause your family and friends even more heartache.
It’s important to review your Will regularly – at least once every five years. If you have any major life changes, such as getting married or divorced, or having children or grandchildren, it’s important to update your Will to take account of your new circumstances.
To ensure that you don’t encounter legal problems in the future, we recommend that you consult a solicitor whenever you amend your Will.
If you would like to add Barnardo’s as a beneficiary, please see our suggested wording for your Will (PDF) which you can give to your solicitor. Any changes must be signed, dated and witnessed, and must refer to the original Will.
For further information on making or changing your Will, and leaving a gift in your Will to Barnardo's download our Gifts in Wills guide (PDF) or order a paper copy.
