High Close School is a mixed residential and day school for young people who have a range of special educational needs arising from social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Cara had suffered the trauma of her parents’ divorce, after which both her mum and dad had nervous breakdowns. Although Cara’s mum tried to protect Cara, when an older boy befriended her one evening and drove her to King’s Cross late at night, her mum was unable to stop her. What went on there, we can only guess, but Cara still cannot talk about it.
It’s clear though that her disruptive behaviour all stemmed from the pain of abuse. When Cara arrived at High Close, aged 12, she had two ASBOs and was known to the police. Cara has done really well at High Close School. Now she’s about to get some new letters to her name, GCSEs.
And most notably, Cara was a finalist in the national competition, Britain’s Kindest Kid.
Vince Barton, House Manager at High Close School says:
We recently received a gift in a Will from one of our supporters. Gifts like this are absolutely vital to Barnardo’s and our work with young people.
