Barnardo's Children’s Centres

Barnardo's children’s centres provide support services for families with children aged under five years old. Opportunities include:

• parenting advice
• support for learning and employment
• links to local health
• education
• other services as well as signposting families to other organisations.

We also provide outreach work activities in the surrounding communities, working alongside current providers. It is hoped that the children’s centres will be a one-stop shop for all families with young children.

Each centre’s role is to involve parents and professionals in deciding what services are needed locally and where the gaps in services are. To do this we are very keen to involve parents and really listen to what they feel they need for themselves and their children.

Funding for the children’s centres comes from central government’s sure start scheme via Devon County Council and started in April 2007. We are working alongside Devon County Council to provide a permanent children’s centre base for the area.

There are currently nine children’s centres in Devon run by Barnardo’s.
