The South Wales office of Barnardo's Cymru Adoption and Fostering Service recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary as an adoption and fostering service. The team and several of Barnardo's carers and families travelled to Folly Farm in West Wales for a day of celebrations.

As part of the new Barnardo's Cymru Adoption and Fostering Service image the services are using transport to advertise. In North Wales adverts have been put on to the back end of buses that circulate a large area of north Wales. In the Cardiff area a taxi has been covered with the new images to advertise. Both projects are aimed to raise awareness of Barnardo's Cymru Adoption and Fostering service and the need for foster carers and adopters in Wales.

To mark the start of Foster Care Fortnight...
... and to launch the results of the ‘Could it be You?’ campaign as the two recruitment officers spent a few days in Barnardo’s shops across Wales. Barnardo’s commissioned the Hadley Centre for Adoption and Foster Care Studies (University of Bristol) to undertake the ‘Could it be You?’ research to develop a profile of existing carers and to help improve the organisation’s recruitment of further foster carers and adopters.

The research produced some interesting statistics and we thought we would use these to talk to and inform shoppers in our nearby Barnardo’s shops. The days were extremely enjoyable and we would like to thank staff at the Carmarthen, Abergavenny, Mold, Rhyl, Wrexham and Prestatyn branches for the use of their shops and their support. We hope to establish a link with many more shops in the future so they can become a regular place for the public to interact with us.
