FAQs
1. What will happen when my child needs to see the doctor or dentist?
All residential pupils are enrolled with the school’s local doctor as they reside at Spring Hill School for the main part of the year. Pupils can also be enrolled with the school’s local dentist or parents/carers may prefer to continue to use their own dentist and make appointments during school holidays.
Visit the Keeping healthy page for more information.
2. Why does the school carry out a six week assessment period before offering a permanent placement?
We carry out a six week assessment period to ensure that we are the right placement for your child. We do not offer an assessment to all young people who are referred to the school. We only offer an assessment if we are very sure we will be able to offer a permanent placement. As well as allowing the school to confirm that they can meet a young person’s needs it also enables you and your child to decide whether Spring Hill is the right school for you. Usually at the end of the assessment period the placement automatically becomes permanent.
Visit the Admissions & referrals page for more information.
3. My child is a very fussy eater, will the school be able to accommodate this?
Obviously we try and encourage healthy eating and help children to develop an understanding of what a good diet consists of. However, alongside this the school cook is extremely flexible in accommodating young people’s preferences. We also cater for specialist dietary needs.
Visit the Keeping healthy page for more information.
4. What communication will I have with the school while my child is resident at the school?
The school recognises and values the importance of communication with parents/carers. Your child’s key worker will contact you at least once a week and will encourage your child to contact you. Staff will keep you informed of any significant occurrences, positive as well as negative. Your child’s teacher will contact you at least once per half term to update you on educational progress.
Visit the Parents & carers page for more information.
Please contact us for more information or to arrange a visit. We operate an ‘open door policy‘ but unfortunately we do not currently have accommodation for parents/carers.
