Ofsted carry out two different types of inspection at Meadows School: Ofsted Care inspections and Ofsted Education inspections.

Summary of the Ofsted Care report (2008)
The Ofsted Care inspections are carried out annually and focus on the residential provision offered at the school.
Ofsted states that their inspections are ‘to assure children and young people, parents, the public, local authorities and government of the quality and standard of the service provided’.
The most recent Ofsted Care inspection was carried out over 2 days on the 14th and 15th of October 2008 and found the residential provision was ‘good’ with ‘outstanding elements’.

Summary of the Ofsted Education report (2008)
The Ofsted Education inspections are carried out every three to five years and concentrate on the educational aspects, incorporating the Ofsted Care report views.
Ofsted states that ‘this inspection evaluated the overall effectiveness of the school and investigated the following issues: the procedures for evaluating pupils’ progress and achievements and for comparing the relative performance of different groups and different subjects; the use of assessment data in setting challenging targets for pupils; and the extent to which lesson activities interest, motivate and challenge all pupils, even when there is not a very wide range of ability in the class’.
The most recent Ofsted Education inspection took place on the 23rd of January 2008. It found that the educational provision was ‘good with elements of outstanding’.
