Residential facilities

Our residential facilities are recommended for those pupils who may live some distance from the school, would benefit from a 24-hour curriculum or have experienced difficulties in their own home or local area.
Residential accommodation
Our residential accommodation is outstanding. We have four modern, purpose-built units (called Cedars, Pinewood, Acacia and Willows) that can each house up to 10 pupils.
All of the units are mixed boys and girls. Each unit has a qualified residential manager, as well as an experienced team of residential staff, and there are always at least two members of staff onsite in the day and three during the night.
We pride ourselves on the exceptionally high standard of our residential provision. The pupils have:
- spacious single bedrooms and shared bathrooms and showers
- a comfortable lounge
- a well-equipped games room, dining room and kitchen.
Residents are allowed to personalise their own rooms with posters and other items so that they can feel as happy and comfortable in their surroundings as possible.
Life skills
We believe the experience of residential living teaches pupils important life skills, such as respect for communal areas and consideration for the needs of fellow residents and staff.
We actively encourage pupils to take part in evening activities at the school or in the local area to broaden their experiences and social networks.
Contact with parents and carers
We know how important it is for a child to remain in contact with their parents and carers, so they are allowed to telephone one another each evening.
Regular home leave is available and we never stop children going home as a sanction for bad behaviour. Parents and carers may visit the units at any time by prior arrangement.
All units are bright and homely, and in a good state of repair. Young people are proud to show visitors around. Artwork around the units is very varied and includes African paintings and posters - Ofsted 2008.
