How to foster a child - the fostering process
Barnardo's recognises that your decision to foster will be one of the most important in your life.
Alternatively, use our information request form to request an information pack from your local service.
The fostering process
The assessment process to become a carer requires that you undergo several checks and meetings before you can be approved.
These will include local authority/trust, medical and criminal record checks. A selection of references will also need to be provided.
The timescale for the assessment process can be three to six months. This will depend on your availability.
